UK Pupil Admissions

Hethersett Old Hall School prides itself on its friendly atmosphere and community. We maintain small class sizes which means that many classes fill quickly. Early application is always advised - it's never too early to make an application!

Whilst most pupils join us at the beginnning of the academic year in September, we do sometimes have spaces available where pupils can join the school immediately if they meet our entrance requirements.

In the first instance please contact Mrs Kim Borrer, Admissions Secretary on +44 (0)1603 810390 or email enquiries@hohs.co.uk

Five Step Admissions Process

Step One: Parent and Prospective Pupil Visit

The best way to get a feel for Hethersett Old Hall School is to visit us. We are always happy to show what makes our school so special. To make an appointment please call Mrs Kim Borrer, Admissions Secretary on +44 (0)1603 810390. We always try to ensure you meet with your child's potential teacher and our Headmaster, Mr Stephen Crump, during your visit.

Deciding on the future education of your child is an important decision. If you need to make several visits with or without your child that's fine.

Step Two: Registration

Once you have decided Hethersett Old Hall School is the right school for your son or daughter, you need to complete a registration application form (PDF). By returning this form you will automatically register your child for a place at the school. Please send:

to Mrs Kim Borrer, Admissions Secretary.

A registration application form is in the back of the school prospectus if you have received one, or call Mrs Borrer on +44 (0)1603 810390 who will be happy to send you a hard copy.

Step Three: Pupil Taster Day

Once your application has been received we will contact you to arrange for your child to have a taster day in school. Lower Prep pupils will be invited to spend 45 minutes in the reception class before their start date.

Hethersett Old Hall School will at this time contact your child’s current school, where applicable, for a short reference.

Step Four: Entrance Assessments

Our entrance assessments are designed to give our staff an indication of your son or daughter's stage of development, so that an appropriate programme of study can be arranged. In Pre-Prep, assessment is based on the visit to the class.

The assessment focuses on maths, English and a reasoning test. We try to keep the atmosphere during assessments as relaxed and non-pressurised as possible.

We welcome applications from all pupils who have at least average ability. The school has a small but very successful learning support department, but unfortunately it does not have the ability to support all special needs. If you are concerned about your child’s educational needs, you should discuss it with Mr Crump, the Headmaster, who will be able to advise you about any special provision the school can make.

Most pupils take the entrance assessments during their taster day.

Sixth Form applicants are expected to gain 5 GCSEs grade A*-C, including English, Maths and their intended subjects of study, where applicable. Applicants will be invited to an interview.

Step Five: Outcome

Mrs Kim Borrer, Admissions Secretary will inform you of the outcome of the assessments. Our formal offer letter includes the terms and conditions of entry and an entrance form.

For a PDF version of the entrance form, please select the appropriate link below:

You will then need to return the appropriate entrance form and a deposit of £200 for day pupils or £400 for boarders to Mrs Kim Borrer, Admissions Secretary. This deposit is repayable at the end of the pupil's last term.

Receipt of the entrance form and deposit, ensures your child's place at our school. We will then send you a full information pack including uniform list, medical forms etc.

New Pupils' Day

In June each year we have a New Pupils’ Day when we invite all our new pupils to spend the day with their new classes (an afternoon for Lower Prep entrants). We also fit pupils for their new uniform at the School Uniform Shop. For applicants not starting in September, Mrs Kim Borrer, Admissions Secretary will help arrange the purchase of the uniform.
