What makes the Sixth Form at Hethersett Old Hall School so special?
Very small class sizes enable teachers to develop excellent rapport with girls. Each and every pupil is known by staff and is encouraged to achieve their full academic potential.
Experienced teachers who know the demands placed on A Level students, are able to guide pupils to exam success and achieve superb results.
An extensive range of AS and A Level courses are available.
Our sixth form tutors are extremely knowledgable and experienced in the university application process. They are able to provide sound advice on UCAS applications and creating personal statements. They will ensure you have the opportunity to develop a strong career path. Since 2007, 100% of our girls have been offered places at their first choice universities.
Girls can undertake a broad range of extra-curricular opportunities including drama productions, music, Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Sport Leadership Award, Young Enterprise and mentoring younger pupils.
There are facilities on site purely for Sixth Formers, including the common room with wi-fi access, kitchen, study rooms and boarding rooms.
All these factors ensure our girls reach their full potential, achieving excellent A Level results.
Life in the Sixth Form
The Sixth Form marks the transition to post compulsory education, and at Hethersett Old Hall School we give girls a greater sense of independence and responsibility. Girls have their own spacious common room which provides a welcome area to relax and enjoy each others company during breaks and lunchtimes.
Small class sizes allow a special partnership to be forged between girls and their teachers. The combination of relaxed surroundings and friendly working relationships with tutors, results in excellent academic achievements.
Our Sixth Form Charter (PDF)
"My years at HOHS have changed my life. I have become more confident in myself;since I started in Year 3, I have made so many friends and have so many memories that I will cherish forever." Lizzy, Sixth Form Scholar
The choice of AS and A Levels at Hethersett Old Hall School is extensive and diverse. For example, unlike many Sixth Forms we allow girls to study all three major art disciplines if they wish; Art, Textiles and Photography. Our modern Art department features state-of-the-art technology, with a fully equipped dark room. In 2010, 100% of our girls achieved A* - C grades in these subjects, one of which achieved two of the newly introduced A* grades for Art and Textiles.
We also have particular strengths in the Sciences. Past girls have gone to study Medicine at Oxford and St Andrews University.
Destinations and Further Education
The majority of our girls do go on to University. We provide abundant advice, help and support throughout the often difficult task of choosing the right degree course. Our individual approach and attention means we have been successful in helping 100% of our girls receive an offer for their first choice of university since 2007. See university destinations for more information on where previous students have gone on to study and case studies.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Our Sixth Form girls are expected to take an active role in the school community as a whole, involving themselves in House activites and leading by example for the younger girls.
Our Old Girls frequently comment on the extra-curricular activities which have given them lasting enjoyable memories of the Sixth Form. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Community Sports Leaders Award, Young Enterprise and the Senior School play help develop new talents and are just a few examples of the many opportunities we offer.
