Sixth Form Department

Perhaps it is the mixture of small class sizes, extensive range of A Level courses, excellent facilities and extra-curricular activities, the support, experience and dedication of staff to developing individual talent that makes the Sixth Form at Hethersett Old Hall School so special.

Small classes allow a special partnership to be forged between students and their teachers and result in relaxed and friendly working relationships.

The modern and informal Sixth Form facilities mark the transition to post compulsory education and foster a greater sense of independence and responsibility. The common room provides a welcoming area to relax and enjoy each other’s company at break and lunchtime.

The majority of Sixth Form students go on to University. Abundant advice, help and support are available through the often difficult task of choosing the right degree course. Our individual approach and attention means that we have been successful in helping students gain access to their first choice of University or course, whether it be to study design at Art College or Medicine at Oxford. In 2008, all girls gained entry into their first choice of University. See Destinations for more information on where last year’s leavers went.

The choice of A Levels is extensive and diverse. Unlike many Sixth Forms students can study all 3 major art disciplines: Art, Textiles and Photography. Our modern Art Department includes state-of-the-art technology, fully equipped dark room and specialist Sixth Form study room. It is difficult to quantify the success of our sixth form pupils. Many are amazed by their achievement; suffice it to say that our value added rating for 2008 was on average 1 whole grade higher than expected from the GCSE results. For individual information on A Level subjects, click on A Level Subjects or view our Sixth Form work.

Sixth Form students tare expected to take an active role in the school community as a whole. Old girls frequently comment on the extra-curricular activities which made the Sixth Form a memorable and lasting experience. Duke of Edinburgh Award, Community Sports Leaders, Young Entreprise and the Senior School play at the Norwich Playhouse help develop many new talents and are just a few examples of the many opportunities on offer. See Extra-Curricular for more information.
