SEN

Hethersett Old Hall School recognises that many pupils will have special needs at some time during their school life.  The School is committed to addressing the individual needs of its pupils and believes they will be helped to overcome their difficulties.

At Hethersett Old Hall School, we believe that all pupils have an entitlement to a balanced, broadly based curriculum.  Our SEN policy reinforces the need for teaching that is fully inclusive.  In addition, the school’s Behaviour Policy provides guidance for children with specific behavioural problems and there are also separate policies addressing the needs of Gifted and Talented pupils and the needs of our pupils for whom English is a second or foreign language.

At Hethersett Old Hall School we have adopted a whole school approach to SEN policy and practice.  Pupils identified as having SEN are fully integrated into mainstream classes.  Every effort is made to ensure that they have full access to the curriculum and are integrated into all aspects of the school.

Experienced staff in the Learning Support Centre are qualified to teach children who display a range of specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia and dyscalculia.  They may support either in class or withdraw pupils for one to one or small group teaching during the school day as appropriate to the needs of each individual student.

Early identification of pupils with SEN is a priority.  The school uses a variety of screening and assessment tools to ascertain pupil progress.  Records provided help the school to design appropriate differentiated learning programmes.

Individual extra lessons (including SEN) are charged at £26.00 per hour (group lessons pro rata.)
