Your daughter or son can join the friendly and welcoming Junior Department in Year 3. Boys have been welcomed into the Junior Department since September 2008. Juniors find the department friendly and welcoming with a bright and vibrant atmosphere conducive to learning.
The purpose-built Junior Department block on site has four classrooms which are linked by an attractive open-plan area with library, art and computer facilities ideal for individual or group work. Pupils also use the senior school facilities on site including science labs, sports hall, music rooms and food technology room.
The Curriculum
The curriculum is broad, imaginative and designed to stimulate your child's natural curiosity. Some subjects are grouped for ability rather than age. Pupils are also be taught by subject specialists, for particular subjects such as languages, PE, dance, swimming, music and ICT.
Our Junior school curriculum 2011-12 (PDF) is available to download.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities and clubs complement and extend the work done in class. These activities include football, netball, swimming, tennis, trampolining, dance, ukulele and recorder. Drama and music are particularly popular and every year the pupils put on a production.
"I would just like to put in writing how much I enjoyed the Junior Play. I thought the way that the pupils performed was truly remarkable, especially when you bear in mind that the eldest girls
were only 11. Their acting abilities, the way they spoke and conducted themselves was amazing and it made me think that this is why I am striving to send two girls to Old Hall. Well done to everyone involved."

Sport also plays a big part in the Junior Department. All pupils have swimming lessons on the on-site heated swimming pool and the packed programme has recently been extended to include cricket and football, as well as tennis, gymnastics, badminton, swimming and athletics. Your daughter or son will have the opportunity to take part in extra-curricular sports during lunchtime clubs and after-school clubs and to represent the school in matches and swimming galas.
At the end of the summer term, Year 6 camped on the school grounds for the night. See them here toasting marshmellows with our headmaster, Mr Crump.

A Day In The Junior Department
Breakfast Club runs 7.50am - 8.40am daily in term time, for parents who want to use the facility. Girls and boys are supervised and receive a hearty breakfast to start the day.
The teaching day starts at 8.45am until 3.45pm. A range of extra-curricular clubs run during lunchtimes. Pupils can be collected from school at 3.45pm or stay on for:
Day Boarding, which runs 3.45pm - 5.45pm daily in term time (except for the Friday of exeat weekends and last day of term). The provision for day boarding is included in the school fees. Juniors who wish to stay for day boarding must register and will receive a snack. They can then attend after-school clubs or relax in the juniors day-boarding common room until 5.00pm. Between 5.00pm - 5.45pm junior pupils are supervised for prep.
Junior boarders will then go on to evening activities, whilst junior day pupils must be collected. We do offer flexi-boarding if girls only need to stay overnight at school on an occasional basis.
