Improvement Motivation Points (IMPs) Policy - for pupils

What are IMPs?

IMPs are Improvement Motivation Points. They are a minor sanction and their purpose is to focus your attention on a falling-short in personal standards and to act as a prompt for improvement. The giving of an IMP should alert your form tutor to a possible problem and perhaps be the basis for a pastoral dialogue. If there are repeated incidents of IMPs being given to you over a short period of time, your form tutor will be involved in getting to the bottom of any problems you might be having.

IMPs are given to pupils from Year 3 to Year 11 inclusive.

Non-discretionary IMPs will always be awarded for the misdemeanours:

Discretionary IMPs (where a warning or other reprimand may precede the giving of an IMP) will be awarded for misdemeanours such as:

The current system of sanctions will be used as normal for more serious offences.

Who can award IMPs?

All members of the teaching staff, the nurses, library assistant and science technician can award non-discretionary and discretionary IMPs. The Head Girls can award non-discretionary IMPs as you go into assembly.

Where and how are IMPs recorded?

In the sanctions folder in the staff room.

Each tutor group has a grid for the term on which details of offence (using codes a-n above or brief description), date and initials of member of staff awarding the IMP are entered.

What are the implications of being given an IMP?

If you are given 3 IMPs in a term then you will be given a form tutor's detention. This is recorded on the IMPs record sheet in the sanctions folder. A letter is not sent home.

If you are given a further 3 IMPS in the same term then you will be given another form tutor's detention.

This is recorded on the IMPs record sheet in the sanctions folder. A letter is not sent home.

If you are given a further 3 IMPs in the same term then you will be given an SMT detention. This is recorded on the IMPs record sheet in the sanctions folder and a letter sent home.
