A Level Subjects

Most girls expect to study Advanced Level (A Level) courses in the sixth form. All A Level subjects consist of separate 'units' and at present these normally consist of four assessment units over a two year course.

The first set of units, normally form an AS Level. This is a qualification in its own right and will normally be completed in the first year. Some units may be taken in January but most are taken in June. If students wish to try and improve their grade, they may resit units.

The second set of two units, are called A2 units. These combine with AS scores to give the full A Level and are studied in the second year of a two year course.

We recommend that most students embark on 4 AS subjects in the lower sixth, three of which are to be closely linked, the fourth to provide a contrast, whilst complementing the other three. This will provide the breadth which universities are seeking.

You can download information on the A Level and AS Level subjects that are on offer at Hethersett Old Hall School below. Please note that some syllabus details may change. For further information please contact the school on 01603 810390, or if you are a current pupil you can speak to your subject teacher.
