Admissions
Hethersett Old Hall School prides itself on its relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We recognise the importance of finding the right school for a child and know that choosing a school for your child can be a difficult and emotional process. We seek to make your application as simple and as relaxing as possible with our 5 step admissions procedure.
We hope that by the time you register with the school it will be clear to you whether or not the school offers the type of education which you are seeking. The conversations which you have with the Admissions Manager, with the Headmistress, Staff and Pupils should answer any questions which you may have about the suitability of the education we offer. Our experienced and friendly staff are always happy to help, so if you have any questions or queries email enquiry or call now on 01603 810390. For International Admissions, please click here.
Step One: Visit
The best way to get a feel for Hethersett Old Hall School is to visit us. We are always happy to show people what makes our school so special, so make an appointment now. Call 01603 810390 or come to our next Open Day.
Step Two: Registration
Once you have decided Hethersett Old Hall School is the school for you, you need to complete an application form, which will automatically register your child for a place at the school. Send the application form, a recent photo, a scholarship application, where applicable, and a £50 registration form to the Admissions Manager, who will contact you to arrange the next step of the admissions process.
Our commitment to small class sizes means that many classes fill quickly. Early registration is strongly advised.

Step Three: Pupil Visit
Once the application has been received we will contact you to arrange for your child to have a taster day in school. Lower Prep pupils will be invited to spend 45 minutes in the reception class before their start date.
The school will at this time contact your child’s current school, where applicable, for a short reference.
Step Four: Entrance Assessments
Entrance Assessments are designed to give staff an indication of each pupil’s stage of development, so that an appropriate programme of study can be arranged. In Pre-Prep assessment is based on the visit to the class.
The assessments focus on maths, English, Reading and an IQ test. Assessments for entry to the school are held in January although we are very pleased to make individual arrangements at any time of the year. Please note that the school welcomes applications from all pupils who have at least average ability. Although the school has a small but very successful learning support department, it does not have the ability to support all special needs. If you are concerned about your child’s progress, you should discuss it with the Headmistress, who will be able to advise you about any special provision the school can make.
Our next assessment day is 17th January 2009 (for Sept 2009 entry). Assessments will be arranged on an individual basis for September 2008 entrants. For more information call 01603 810390 now. We can also arrange for assessments to be taken in your child’s current school for earlier entry.
Sixth Form applicants are expected to gain 5 GCSEs grade A-C, including English and Maths and in the intended subjects of study, where applicable. Applicants will be invited to an interview.
Step Five
The Admissions Manager will inform you of the outcome of the assessments. The formal offer letter includes the terms and conditions and an Entrance Form.

You will then need to return the Entrance Form and a £200 (day pupils) / £400 (boarders) deposit to the Admissions Manager. (The deposit is repayable at the end of the pupils last term) You will then be sent a full information pack including fee details, uniform list, medical forms etc…
In June each year we have a New Pupils’ Day when we invite all new pupils to spend the day with their new classes (afternoon for LP entrants) and to be fitted for their new uniform respectively. For applicants not starting in September, the admissions team will help arrange the purchase of the uniform.
You will then be ready to start. We want to make the process as easy and as uncomplicated as possible, but if you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Manager now. Call 01603 810390 or email: prosepctus@hohs.co.uk
